1. Should we be worried about sex robots?
https://www.sciencefocus.com/future-technology/should-we-be-worried-about-sex-robots-kate-devlin/

I have been fascinated about robots for years. I even use to run a yahoo email group about robots. I’m not worried about them as sex partners at all. I feel for a lot of people it will be a needed tool to keep them sexually active. People always proclaim: “What about the human interaction? They will be missing out on that!!” Well, guess what, there are people who are already missing out on human interaction for one reason or another. Should they be further penalized because they have limits and are unable to relate to another human being? There are those who are physically disabled and usually are over looked as sex partners by able bodied people. They have as strong sexual desires as anyone else and they might easily choose to have sex robot to fulfill their desires. Then there are those who just have a hard time relating to other people. Robots will be a part of our lives more and more all the time. It doesn’t have to be something we are afraid of.

2. A humanoid (a life-like robot) that looks like your biggest crush, and acts exactly the way you hoped your crush would act has been created. This humanoid initiates sex, with you. Would you have sex with the humanoid?

Of course, I would need more information about this humanoid robot, see it, talk to it, find out it’s prime objective. But I would have no problem having sex with a robot. I would see it as just another tool in my sexual repertoire, much like my Hitachi vibrator.

3. What’s your typical sleep attire?

I sleep completely naked. I hate getting twisted and tied up in nightgowns.

4. What is the most cringe-worthy thing you have experienced in the bedroom?

I am almost reluctant to say this as I know other people’s fetishes provide something they need, but at the time this was a total turn off for me. It was a one night stand (don’t judge, this was the 70’s) and the guy just wanted me to watch while he masturbated while wearing women’s red lace panties. I would say he just had the wrong partner for this. It bugged me that he assumed all women would get off on this.

5. Are you satisfied with the amount of after-sex affection (e.g., spooning, cuddling, intimate conversation) you receive? yes or no . If no, how could it be better?

In general, no. Two areas that most men (no, not all) fail in, are foreplay and after sex. Foreplay doesn’t mean just after you get naked and into bed. Foreplay starts long before which includes suggestions, ideas, teasing, anticipation… talking about it long before it happens, texting, sexting, sexing phone calls through out the day until you finally can get together physically. And then after it’s like once it’s over for him, it’s over for everyone. I have lost count as to how many men came, pulled out, rolled over and went to sleep. In almost all cases I never had an orgasm. A smart man will make sure his partner has had an orgasm before he does… one guy told me his motto was “ladies come first” and he lived up to that. And after sex, cuddling is appreciated, talking to me like I’m still there is VERY appreciated. Otherwise you end up feeling like nothing more important than a sex toy.

Bonus: What is your most useless skill?

I can name that tune and artist after just about 6 notes. Not sure when that will ever come in handy.

What Movie Makes You Happy

There are a lot of movies that make me smile, and some that make me laugh. But there is one movie I was watching where I stopped and realized… I Feel Happy!!

It was during the movie Scrooge with Albert Finney and the song “Thank You Very Much”… and I felt chills of happiness. It rarely happens, so I really noticed it when it did.

Even now watching it again, I get those same chills.

What is most important to you?

I had to think about this… for me personally, or for me as a citizen of the world and that’s when I realized it was the same for both.

What is important is fairness, equality, equity, acceptance, caring, kindness.

That we see the differences each other and we celebrate those differences as well as the things that we share… hopes, dreams, goals.

We each have our own cultures, background, histories, viewpoints and all of this is what makes life so rich.

The goal should be to listen and pay attention and learn from one another.

It’s really not that hard.1diversity1

The Journey

1faraway

I turn to social media and my blog for support and ideas from my family and friends, to read, to write, to play games for distraction.

I read books as an escape and I read books looking for answers, and I google key words for more the same.

I listen to music to relax.

I get up and walk around for a change.

I take vitamins with hope and take medications out of desperation.

I make lists of things I want to do, but don’t do for lack of energy.

I avoid sleeping and then end up sleeping for 18 hours.

I know the right things to say, think and do, but none of it happens fast enough.

And this is just the beginning of this new journey.

Something That Worries Me

I am a big fan of two things in life… learning and sharing.

Education can come in many different forms… from formal education in a classroom to reading a variety of books from a library. It’s asking questions and listening and asking more questions. It’s looking for new viewpoints.

The other; sharing… volunteering to help others, to donate funds and items that helps others, lending a hand to those who need to help others.

I’m listening to and reading online comments from people who claim to be followers of a teacher who is said to encourage these two ideas but they are doing anything but.

One woman who screamed at others that she will teach her grandchildren to hate “you people”. Family members who talk about others as nothing more than objects. Those who refuse to do one simple thing, like wear a face mask, that could help keep others from getting sick.

I’ve always known that the world was full of selfish, narrow minded people who didn’t care for anyone else but themselves. The fear and guilt they promoted has always been there. But it seems it’s more overt, in your face right now. It’s as if the racist squatter in the White House has given them all permission to be angry and hate and make sure we all know exactly how they feel. Too much of this hate is becoming action meant to send messages of fear to the rest of the country, and the world.

They are not happy that “the others” that they fear and hate are now pushing back. Women with the #MeToo movement, The Pride movements, Black Lives Matter, are three of the largest.

But smaller, quieter ones are also pushing back… older people, fat people, disabled people and non-Christians.

And this last one is one that is usually fueling the strong anger and hate that infect the others…. Conservative Christians are the only group who has the majority and then tries to force fear and guilt because they don’t have a monopoly.

It’s the white, straight, rich, Christian males who guide the rest of the problems. They hate BIPOC. They hate LGBTQ. They fear strong women and only want young obedient submissive Christian women who have enough sense to stay at home and raise babies like they were designed to do. They hate and fear the poor. They hate non-Christians; Muslims, Jews, Pagans, Atheists and even some that self identify as Christian but the conservatives refuse to recognize them as such.

This group also dislikes, if not right out hates, and fears education and helping others. Republicans have for generations insisted that people stand on their own two feet and not expect government aid. Conservatives encourage early marriage so that young people can’t get too smart, especially young women. If they have to have education, they insist it has to be “Christian” education, which isn’t really education. It’s indoctrination.

They don’t learn or know the history of our country, or even of their own religion. They encourage ignorance on both, because “poorly educate” people are easier to control and manage.

So what am I worried about?

I’m worried that conservatives have infiltrated politics at such a rate that it might be hard to turn it around. This is not by accident, this is by design, and has been the goal since the 1950’s when they forced “under God” to be added to the Pledge of Allegiance and on the dollar bill. Both of those were intended to force god onto everyone whether they wanted it or not.

The goal of electing Donald Trump was a simple one. To get conservative judges on the Supreme Court so that they will overturn Roe Vs Wade and outlaw abortions. If they can accomplish that, the next goals of repealing the amendments that give “others” the rights we have… women’s rights, civil rights, gay rights. They would love to take us back to the 1920’s when women, black people and gay people are all second class citizens and have no rights to speak out, to object and to vote. The only ones who would have these rights would be them… white, straight, rich, Christian males.

And if you think I’m overreacting, just look at how way too many people are reacting to the Covid 19 novel coronavirus in this country.

Instead of listening to the experts and learning about the virus and about how to keep from getting it, and more importantly how to help others from getting it, they are only thinking of themselves. They don’t care if anyone else gets sick and dies. As long as it’s not them. They want to go to the beach. They want to get a haircut. They don’t want to wear a mask.

Education and helping others.

Learning and sharing.

These are choices and it’s amazing, it’s appalling, how many people don’t want to do either one.

To The Future

Too many people don’t take the younger generations seriously and they need to start doing so. It’s their future that we are infecting and affecting.

The teenagers of this country pulled a huge “prank” on Donald Trump and his egocentric rallies. I never occurred to Trump that there would be people who wouldn’t jump at the change to attend this insane rally.

These are just the latest. Add in the teens who organized BLM protests all over the planet, kids working for gun control so they can go to school without getting shot like the Parkland students.
And Greta Thunberg and others like her who are activists for climate change.

Teens are getting involved with #MeToo so they don’t have to deal with sexual assault like their mothers and grandmothers.

And they are getting involved with promoting social distancing and face masks during Covid 19.

These kids have had to give up a lot over the past 4-5 years, most recently the high school experiences that the rest of us all took for granted… proms, graduation, time with their friends.

But they hold the future in the palm of their hands and they are NOT going to let a gross dirty old man take it away from them.

Cheers to you, kids…. many of us are rooting for you and your successes!!

Reminiscences: Musings in Memoir — Prompt #4: Run

In my mind I see myself running… down a path, between trees, along a grassy patch, past some animals, onto a road, back the path. In my head I hear the song “Light My Fire” by The Doors. Since high school that song has been my running song and even now I can listen to it and feel myself running once again.

I ran track in high school… short sprints and hurdles but never thought of myself as a long distance runner. I only did that for myself… Running on the beach, on the path at Greenlake, amongst animals in display habitats at the zoo, and my favorite of running in Ravenna Park, all in Seattle.

In the 60’s, girls running track in high school wasn’t considered a sport, it was just a pastime for us to amuse ourselves. We couldn’t earn letters, only the boys could do that. Our equipment was the boy’s old castoffs, and usually broken. We were only allowed to use the track and gym after the boys were finished with it.

After high school, I stopped running, I don’t know why… I wish I could again. At this point, I would be happy to walk again.

But in my mind, I’m still a runner….

Liberal Values

This was written in 2009. Nothing much has changed in 11 years.

Why Liberal values are American values
By Brian Elroy McKinley

“You are a contentious person….and probably a Liberal,” started a recent response to an article I published on abortion rights.
Contentious? Possibly.

Liberal? Absolutely.

Seems these days Conservatives have convinced themselves, and some of the American public, that being a Liberal is akin to being a card-carrying member of the Communist Party. While this may be a great smear tactic for an election year, to believe such a notion proves that the believer is uneducated in the fundamentals of the American political system. Our nation was founded on Liberalism. Embodied in the Declaration of Independence are its three tenets: “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” The very term, itself, is taken from the same root as the second of these precepts. To be a Liberal is to defend the freedom – the Liberty – of all people who make up our great nation. To be a Liberal is to trust individuals and families to run their own lives as they see fit. To be a Liberal is to create a nation where anyone can excel if they are willing to do the work.

In order to understand the true nature of Liberalism, and to dispel the misconceptions fomented by those whose agenda is counter to our freedom, I will detail the tenets of Liberal thought and dispel the misconceptions so often put forth by Conservative rhetoric.

Liberalism is “Life.” It is freedom from physical dangers that can kill or disable us. The Liberal believes it is a nation’s job to protect its citizens from physical harm, whether from external sources, such as hostile nations, or internal ones, like crime, disease, or hunger. Without the solid ground of physical wellbeing, our nation and its citizens cannot enjoy the benefits of being free. Liberals believe in a strong military, well suited to defend the nation. Liberals believe in good laws, hard-working police, and a just legal system to protect its citizens from crime. Liberals believe in affordable health care for everyone, to keep our people strong. And Liberals believe in the availability of food and shelter for its needy, not as a hand out but as a reasonable step in moving all Americans toward self-reliance and the freedom that comes with it.

Liberalism is “Liberty.” It is the freedom to do as your conscience dictates without impeding another’s rights. Fleeing oppression in mother Europe, our founders established a nation where personal belief and self-determination are protected, not persecuted, where hard work is rewarded, not demanded, and where each person is bestowed with the ability to better his or her life because of citizenship, not class. Liberals believe in freedom of speech to protect us from political oppression. Liberals believe in sound regulations to protect us from economic oppression. Liberals believe in just laws to protect us from social oppression. And Liberals believe in quality education to protect us from the oppression of ignorance.

Liberalism is “The Pursuit of Happiness.” It is the freedom to create an environment where the individual can excel. What is freedom if it cannot be used to better our lives? A truly free society must be one where its members can rise above their limitations and expand their futures. We call it “The American Dream,” and it’s alive and well in the heart of the Liberal. Liberals believe in equal opportunities for all to rise above our means. Liberals believe in equal opportunities to rise above our education levels. Liberals believe in equal opportunities to rise above our social status. And Liberals believe each and every family should have an equal opportunity to make this world better for their children.

Based on these tenets, we can see that Liberalism is not the monster it’s made out to be by the opposition. It is pro individual and pro family. It is pro community and pro country. Liberalism is, by its very definition, the heart and soul of what it means to be an American. It stands against tyranny of any kind, whether international or domestic. It works to remove abuse and fight crime. And it strives to eliminate the idea of a wasted life by not wasting resources and opportunities.

By this time someone might ask, “if that is a Liberal, then what is a Conservative?”

Liberals and Conservatives received their names for good reasons. Just as Liberals get their label by standing for Liberty, Conservatives get their label from the desire to “conserve” a style of living. They, too, claim they are fighting to conserve our personal rights and our economic opportunities, but they do it with a different ideal than the Liberal. The term they use for the difference is “values.” Values are norms or codes by which people live their lives. While most Americans share some common values, such as the right to own property and the right to protect our families, we also have many divergent values with which we raise our children. So if we try to impose values into the political framework of the nation, we are forced to ask, “whose values?” And in the search for such absolutes, we must also ask, “which generation’s values?”

As the nation ages and new generations take over leadership, the values of its population change. Where once a woman was valued for how well she cooked, cleaned and entertained, today’s women are gaining recognition that they offer as much, if not more, to the work force than men. Where once African Americans were forced to live as second-class citizens, now they have a legal status equal to that of whites, even if we still have a ways to go in actual practice. Changing values brings confusing times for many – especially for those who believe that America was better with an older set of values. These people want to “conserve” a style of American living they believe once existed, what they call, “traditional family values.” They want to conserve the system that they believe made America wealthy and strong. Unfortunately that also means they want to force all of us to live according to their values.

Conservatives don’t really fight for our rights – they fight for what they think our rights should be – putting limits on our freedom of speech in order to “conserve” an older, more traditional norm of what should be said. Conservatives don’t really fight for our family values – they fight for what they believe our family values should be – putting limits on our behavior, even behavior between consenting adults, in order to “conserve” an older, more traditional view of acceptable personal activity. Conservatives don’t really fight for our income – they fight for little or no regulations – putting limits on our ability to be treated fairly by large companies, who if left without restriction, can form monopolies that choke out competition and drive down wages.

Conservatives are willing to curb our freedom of speech if it clashes with their interpretation of “traditional” values, values from an older time where woman were in domestic servitude to men, where child abuse, sexual abuse, wife abuse, and homosexuality were all kept locked in closets, where minorities were second-class citizens and discrimination was free from incrimination, and where the inability to plan a family’s growth meant an explosion of mouths to feed – a population explosion that today threatens to bankrupt our nation’s retirement funds. The Conservative position, therefore, is inherently contradictory. You cannot be for legislating away freedom in the name of “family values” and also claim you are protecting individual and family rights.

As new generations have placed their own values into the laws that govern our land, Conservatives have sought to fight back by limiting the size and power of the government. Conservatives are willing to give away the very power needed to protect our liberties in the work place. Their idea of a smaller, less-intrusive government means a return to the days where business decisions and profits were more important than clean air and clean water, where a business could abuse its employees without incrimination, and where minorities and women could be passed over for jobs or paid less then white males for the same jobs. Again the Conservative position is at odds with itself. You cannot claim you are fighting for families at the same time that you allow the family bread winner to be overworked and underpaid and allow neighborhoods to be overrun by non-regulated big business. The Conservative would effectively shift power away from the people, who can elect public officials to fight for their rights, and into the hands of private businesses, who need not answer to the public when making decisions that affect us all.

Because Liberals fight to protect every citizen from having other people’s values imposed on them, Conservatives like to label Liberals as being evil. The following list shows what Conservatives like to say against Liberals, and then goes on to show why such assertions are false:

Conservatives say that Liberals are anti-family.
However . . .
Conservatives want to define what your family should be
Whereas . . .
Liberals put you in charge of your family
Liberals support your right to define what your family will be
Liberals fight for your family’s rights against economic and political oppression

Conservatives say that Liberals are anti-business.
However . . .
Conservatives are pro-money, but that often translates into monopolies, which hurt small business and competition, which hurts us all
Whereas . . .
Liberals protect small businesses by regulating the larger ones and by breaking up monopolies
Liberals protect workers in order to create a healthy workforce that will help businesses grow

Conservatives say that Liberals are anti-religion.
However . . .
Conservatives are often for one dominant religion, and are, therefore, against others
Whereas . . .
Liberals support complete freedom of religion and from religion so that all citizen are free to choose the manner in which faith is a part of their lives
Liberals strive to keep government completely out of a family’s religious choices

Conservatives say that Liberals are anti-freedom.
However . . .
Conservatives want to stop homosexuals, stop abortions, stop the women’s movement, and stop freedom of expression through the use of censorship
Whereas . . .
Liberals leave it up to the parents to teach such values to their children
Liberals believe each person or family should be free to choose how to behave as long as it does not interfere with another’s rights

Conservatives say that Liberals are anti-morality.
However . . .
Conservatives are for one specific kind of morality
Whereas . . .
Liberals are for the morality of free choice, where each person or family decides their own values
Liberals want the government to protect our freedom to choose what is important to us rather than to impose the laws and codes of another’s morality

Conservatives say that Liberals are anti-military.
However . . .
Conservatives see the military as a means to impose their values and standards on others
Whereas . . .
Liberals see the military as a vital protection of our freedoms and our liberties, giving us a space in which to pursue happiness
Liberalism’s Stance on Specific Issues

With the desire to promote Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness as the central motivation, the Liberal always defends these tenets when deciding how to stand on a particular issue. The following will show why Liberals often take the stance they do:

Abortion/Contraception – Liberty means the freedom to control your body, your reproductive system, and your future.

Affirmative Action – Liberty means having fair opportunities for those in society who are discriminated against.

Education – Liberty means the freedom to learn in order to build a better future for yourself, your family, your community, and your country.

Environment – Liberty means the fair use of our nation’s natural resources for all citizens. Where possible, without unreasonable restriction to private enterprise, the government should strive to protect our natural environment so all can enjoy its bounty.

Gun Control – Liberty means the freedom to protect yourself, your family, and your property, with deadly force if necessary. People have a right to keep guns for such a purpose. People also have a right to use guns in sporting activities and in the event that citizens should be called on to form a citizen militia. We do not, however, have a right to own all the latest people-killing technology. The People, through the government, can restrict some of the more deadly weapons being sold today.

Health – Liberty means the freedom to overcome physical limitations in order to better yourself, your family, your community, and your country.

Regulations – Liberty means the freedom to live and work in an environment that best allows individuals and families to grow in the pursuit of happiness. Bad air, bad water, bad living and working conditions only stifle that liberty.

Sexuality – Liberty means the freedom to share mutual intimate affection with the person of your choice, regardless of gender.

Substance Abuse – Liberty means the freedom to decide what you put in your body. Unless the use of a substance is a danger to unwilling victims, its use should be kept legal. In situations where use of a substance may or may not effect bystanders, regulations – such as in the case with tobacco – should be enacted to protect the bystander without denying the individual’s choice to use the substance. Smoking and non-smoking areas in public places are a prime example of this.

Taxation – Liberty is found within a system. That system does not happen by itself. It is created and supported by us, the People, and it is funded by our labors. The money we pay in taxes is what allows us to thrive in Liberty and work in fairness. Reasonable taxation is necessary because without it, many of us would find it difficult to get paid even a fraction of what we are paid now. And those who benefit more from the system should expect to pay more to help support it.

Women’s/Minority Rights – Liberty means the freedom to be valued and judged on talent and work, not on the physical characteristics over which we have no control.

In closing let me state that freedom sometimes brings situations we don’t like. Some people will choose to use their freedom to engage in activities that go against our personal values. It is a great temptation to use our democratic rights to try and enshrine our own personal values – whether they come from religious or humanistic origins – in the laws of the nation. The inherent problem with this is that when Liberty is restrained by any one group’s values, even if that group represents the majority of the population at the time, it can easily be changed from one generation to the next, meaning that you could be forced to live under someone else’s values as easily as you might force someone to live under yours.

The only true defense of our values is the defense of our liberties.

If you don’t want to be forced to live under a foreign set of values, don’t force others to live under yours. Instead, fight for the freedom to believe as you want while others believe as they want. Freedom of choice, as long as it does not infringe on another’s rights, is the foundation upon which this nation was built. Liberalism is the ideology that strives to defend that freedom for everyone. And for that reason it pleases me to no end to state that I am proud to be Liberal.

Change

I can’t believe the things I’m seeing these days and it all boils down to one thing…

Change.

No one wants anything to change.

They will risk getting sick with a coronavirus so they don’t have to wear a mask that keeps themselves and others safer and healthy.

They don’t want to stay home for the same reason, in spite of everyone having take out/food deliveries, nonstop Netflix and Zoom. They fucking want a hair cut and to sit on the damn beach.

They are sick of the white vs black and why the hell can’t we just say “all lives matter” and get back to life as normal.

They are pissed because SCOTUS ruled that LGBTQ are human beings like everyone else and deserve the same rights as they do.. you know, the white conservative Christian Republican hypocrites who grew up learning about the Golden Rule but will do anything other than live by it.

They (especially white Christian men) are angry that women have forgotten their place to be silent and stay at home do “women’s work”.

They insist that “all lives matter” and that they are “pro-life” until it comes to feeding babies and children, providing healthcare for everyone and helping all people have the same rights as they do… a home to live in and enough food to eat.

They are even having a fit because a bottle of syrup is changing its name and logo.

Change scares the hell out of them. When in reality it’s the change that affects them and takes away their white, straight, Christian privilege and entitlement that makes them angry.

They don’t care about helping anyone else, which has been the Republican way for 50 years.

They don’t care that black kids are dying at the hands of the police.

They don’t care that BIPOC are dying to Covid 19 at a much higher rate.

They don’t care that transgender people are being killed just because they are perceived as being different.

They don’t care that children are being abused by their parents because they were guilt tripped by “good” Christians who convinced them that abortion was a sin.

They don’t care about their own children who come out as gay and are then disowned them for an inaccurate dogma.

It’s said that the only constant in life is change. But we will have to drag these racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic people into the 21st century whether they like it or not and they sure as hell don’t like it.

But change is happening. Someday all lives WILL matter, no matter the color of their skin, the person they love, their religion or lack of it, or even little things like how they dress, how much they weigh and other judgments that too many find fault with.

Maybe if these people would learn about these changes, talk to people and try to understand things from their perspective, these changes would be much less painful.
