Recipe of the Day: Homemade Rice A Roni

This is just as easy to make as the package variety. I like the homemade version so that I can control the sodium level.

1⁄2 cup raw spaghetti, broken into 1 inch pieces
3⁄4 cup raw white rice
14 1⁄2 ounces broth (any flavor)
2 tablespoons butter or 2 tablespoons margarine

In medium skillet saute’ broken spaghetti pieces in butter, stirring constantly, until the spaghetti begins to brown. Add rice, stirring until the rice is well coated with the butter and the spaghetti browns a little more. Carefully pour in broth. Simmer until liquid is absorbed.

  1. I never thought about putting pasta and rice together. Neat idea!

I hope you and yours are staying safe and healthy during this difficult time.

    1. Rice A Roni in the package as been around for years, at least since the 1960’s and used the slogan “A San Francisco treat”. So many grew up with the box version, it never occurred to them that they could make it from scratch.
