January Jumpstart: Jan 17: Karma

“You Give a Little Love And It All Comes Back To You….You will be remembered for the things you say and do.”

One of the many problems I have with religion is the idea that as long as believe in their deity, your wretched soul will be saved. It doesn’t matter what you actually believe, think, say or do… just publically “accepting” their god is enough. All other sins are “forgiven” because you are a born again and absolved from any evil.

Because of this mentality, a lot of people get away with a lot of terrible things. Including the person occupying the White House in the United States.

This has never made sense to me. It reminded me of when my son was little, he had this idea that he could do whatever he wanted as long as he said he was sorry afterwards. He didn’t need to mean it, he just needed to say it. I told him it didn’t work that way.

So why do so many adults believe it does?

These adults can forgive anything as long as the person saying “I’m sorry (for I have sinned)” is a born again Christian.

But if someone who isn’t part of their belief system does the same thing, they are highly judgmental.
I’ve seen this on just about any topic…. from healthcare to education to politics to women’s rights and even about sexuality. Not only gender identification, but sex positive attitudes.

Most religions have a huge bias against any kind of sexual behavior and see sex as a means to end… mostly for procreation and occasionally for male pleasure. The idea that not only would a woman WANT sex but actually enjoys it, so out of their realm of possibilities.

Add in the idea of being older and/or disabled and the realm doesn’t even exist. Women who are past the age of childbearing shouldn’t even be thinking about sex, let alone desire it. And if you are in a wheelchair, no matter what gender or age, sex just isn’t possible and how dare you think it is.

Sex covers a lot of areas for people.. love, desire, arousal, need, and it’s not up to one person to decide how that needs to be interpreted for others. All human beings are sexual creatures and we all have the right to have sexual needs as long as it done so responsibly with respect, communication and consent.

“You Give a Little Love And It All Comes Back To You….You will be remembered for the things you say and do.”

Love can be as simple as understanding and encouragement to embrace those desires is what you might be remembered for.

Good karma!
